Website Grader: Website grader gives you an overview of you site in terms of usability and search engine friendliness. It also grades your site on different factors. The report gives you recommendations on how to improve your site, for example if the title or the meta tag description is too long or missing. Web site grader takes many factors into consideration like back links, outgoing links, rss feeds, subscriber, etc when assigning a grade to your website. All these factors are extremely important for Search Engine Optimization. The report also includes Google page rank, Alex rank, etc. In conclusion it provides a score that incorporates things like website traffic, SEO, social popularity and other technical factors. It also provides some basic advice on how the website can be improved from a marketing perspective.

Other features include getting estimated SE and AdWords traffic for any domain. This is an extremely helpful site for any one who is interested in SEO.

Search Engine Optimization always starts with good, original and unique content, and also providing an easy way for users to navigate your site. Being said that other factors also play an important role in optimizing your web site.
Let start with the Domain Name, try to find a domain name that is suitable for the content or products on your site. Also register that domain for at least 2 years, five or more years will be optimal but if you are trying to reduce start up costs 2 years is the bare minimum.
When you start building the site try to do everything correct the first time. Start with using good and accurate page titles for the main page and every other pages. The title of the main page should include the main focus of your content or products. Search engines usually bold or highlight these terms when user does a search.
Don’t forget to add unique and accurate meta tags, search engines might use them as a summary if it matches the user query. If you have multiple pages don’t use the same meta tag for every page, try to have a unique tag for each page.
Have a good URL structure, i.e . don’t name the page mysite.com/page1 or mysite.com/p=30, change it to something more descriptive like http://letsseo.com/2008/12/24/simple-search-engine-optimization-seo-strategies or http://letsseo.com/seo-articles/simple-search-engine-optimization-seo-strategies
That give the user an idea on what the content might on your page.
Create menus that are easy to navigate and also have some form of breadcrumbs on every page.
When writing articles use keywords that are relevant and also try to use these keywords in the url, but don’t over stuff the article with keywords. Use heading and paragraph tags is also a good practice, i am not sure how much effect this has on the search engines but it is good practice.
When using images use alt text, and use relevant names for the image file.
Create a site map for your site, this will be helpful for search engines to index your site, which inturn will provied better page rankings and more organic traffic.
Finally submit the site to search engines and relevant directories, I recommend manual submission.
There are a lot of free and useful tools like Google webmaster tools and , Google Analytics that will help you optimize your website. These tools helps you understand how google sees you site. There are other useful tools and tips that I will go into detail on my future posts.
